Sherri Shepherd is facing a heartbreaking moment as she prepares to say goodbye to her cherished dog, Lexi, a Cane Corso who has been her loyal companion for over a decade.
During the November 21 episode of her talk show, “Sherri,” the 57-year-old host shared the devastating news about her pet’s declining health and revealed that Lexi would soon be crossing the rainbow bridge.
Shepherd expressed her sorrow, stating, “For those who know me or have followed my journey, you’re aware of my deep affection for my Cane Corso, Lexi.
I’ve just learned from the vet that she’s very, very sick, and it’s time for her to go to heaven this week.
My son Jeffrey and I are managing through this tough time.”
In a touching moment, she shared how her son, who is on the autism spectrum, reacted to the news.
“Jeffrey doesn’t show his feelings easily, but when I told him about Lexi, he said, ‘Mom, I’m crying on the inside,’” Shepherd recounted, highlighting the emotional bond they all share with Lexi.
Lexi has been a part of Shepherd’s life for twelve years, joining their family when Jeffrey was just five.
Reflecting on their time together, she remarked, “I know I’ve given Lexi a wonderful life.
I feel grateful for the 12 years of protection and love she offered.
It comforts me to think about the joy she brought into our lives.”
The talk show host reminisced about Lexi’s fierce loyalty and the unique bond they shared.
“I truly believe dogs love us unconditionally, much like how God loves us.
Looking into her fierce eyes always reminded me of her strength.
She could take my face off in seconds if she wanted to, yet she chose to lick me instead.
Whenever I prayed, she would lay by me, offering solace.”
As her emotions swelled, Shepherd concluded her segment with a heartfelt tribute, saying, “Lexi, you’ve been incredible, and we will miss you dearly.
Thank you for everything.”
On Instagram, Shepherd also posted a poignant video featuring snapshots of her and Lexi, accompanied by an emotional message.
