** Brooke Shields Reflects on Unlikely Bond with George H.W.
Bush**
Brooke Shields has shared a delightful chapter from her past, revealing that during her single days, she turned to none other than George H.W.
Bush for dating advice.
The actress, author, and model affectionately referred to the 41st president as “Papa Bush,” highlighting the unique bond they shared.
At a recent event organized by the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy, held at the Lotos Club in New York, Shields recounted how Bush played the role of a trusted advisor in her romantic life.
She reminisced about a time when she was dating someone whose father served as an ambassador in Bermuda, confiding in Bush about the relationship.
The evening’s host, Lauren Bush Lauren, chuckled as she recalled her late grandfather’s fondness for juicy tidbits of gossip.
It’s clear that the former president enjoyed keeping up with the personal lives of those around him.
Back in the early ’90s, Shields was linked to Kelly Gaines, the son of Eb Gaines, who was the head of the U.S. consulate in Bermuda during Bush’s presidency.
In a playful jab, Shields once claimed that kissing Gaines gave her butterflies like no other, even more so than her famous kiss with John F. Kennedy Jr.
Fast forward to more recent times, Shields revealed that the former president had given his seal of approval for her current husband, Chris Henchy, whom she wed in 2001.
She shared a humorous anecdote about receiving a phone call from Bush while filming a project in Boston.
He had insisted she visit him at the family’s summer retreat in Kennebunkport, Maine.
Shields vividly recalled the conversation: “He called me out of the blue, saying, ‘Rumor has it, you’re close to Kennebunkport.
If you don’t come visit me, young lady, you’re in big trouble.’” Naturally, she couldn’t resist the invitation and quickly arranged a trip.
When she arrived with her husband, who wasn’t exactly a seasoned golfer, she playfully urged him to hit the links with Bush.
This led to an amusing scenario where he ended up playing golf, despite having only picked up the sport a few times in his life.
Upon reaching the Bush family compound, the former president whisked Shields away for a chat in his golf cart.
With genuine curiosity, he asked her about her relationship with Henchy, noting how much he liked him.
Shields commented that her husband was visibly nervous throughout this interaction.
For Shields, George and Barbara Bush were more than just friends; they felt like grandparents to her.
With few relatives in her life, she cherished their guidance and warmth, particularly during her youth and dating years.
She fondly recounted a quirky moment when she popped into their quarters to report some rain issues, only to find the couple engrossed in a TV show.
Bush invited her in, asking for her insight on a mystery unfolding on screen.
This simple yet sweet memory remains one of her favorites.
Shields also took the opportunity to discuss her upcoming book, “Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed To Get Old,” scheduled for release in January 2025.
This work delves into the challenges women face regarding aging and societal expectations.
She explained that what began as a title that seemed provocative evolved into a deeper exploration of age and agency in a world increasingly focused on youth.
Through her writing, Shields aims to challenge stereotypes and encourage a more nuanced understanding of women as they age.
