In a touching moment that blended reality and fantasy, a 14-year-old boy named Judah, who has battled cystic fibrosis since infancy, experienced the thrill of a lifetime.
Thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, he had the incredible opportunity to meet pop star Jason Derulo and record music together.
Judah, diagnosed with cystic fibrosis shortly after birth, has spent much of his life in and out of hospitals, undergoing rigorous treatments and regular medical check-ups.
His mother, April Grim, shared how Judah’s understanding of his condition deepened as he grew older.
“When he realized he was different from other kids, the emotional weight of his illness began to take a toll,” she explained.
Being a teenager is challenging enough; adding a chronic disease into the mix can be overwhelming.
Despite the hurdles, music emerged as a lifeline for Judah.
“People often see me and think I have a perfect life, but they don’t know what I go through because of my cystic fibrosis,” he reflected.
“Music allows me to express a side of myself that goes beyond my illness.” With the support of Make-A-Wish, Judah was able to step into the world of professional music, gaining insights into the industry while recording his very own song.
The big surprise came when Judah was whisked away in a limousine, only to find himself at Jason Derulo’s home studio.
“I was so nervous!
This feels surreal and incredibly heartwarming,” he said, clearly overwhelmed by the moment.
On November 8th, Judah spent the afternoon in Derulo’s private studio, collaborating with the artist and other talented musicians.
Derulo expressed his enthusiasm for working with Make-A-Wish, stating, “This partnership allows me to contribute to something greater than myself.
It’s about bringing hope to children like Judah.” He also announced ongoing initiatives, such as the #MakeMeHappySweepstakes, which invites fans to donate to Make-A-Wish for a chance to meet him at an upcoming concert.
Derulo, now 35, emphasized the importance of giving back, saying, “It’s crucial for me to help make a real difference.
I hope this encourages others to join us in supporting kids who are waiting for their wishes to be granted.”
After an inspiring day of music-making, Judah left with a fully produced song titled “Pick Up The Phone,” featuring his vocals alongside Derulo’s.
The experience was not just about the music; it was a celebration of resilience and hope.
“There were times we felt someone else might deserve this wish more,” April reflected.
“But no child asks for a disease, and everyone should have the chance to dream.”

It’s an extraordinary experience, and we’re filled with gratitude right now.”
