Rosamund Pike Stands Up Against Uncomfortable Audition Requests

Actress Rosamund Pike revealed a shocking experience from her early career, where she was asked to strip down to her underwear during an audition for the 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day.

Pike, who portrayed Miranda Frost in the movie, shared this incident during an “Audible Session” promoting her narration of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility audiobook.

Recalling the audacious demand made when she was just 21 years old, Pike recounted her refusal to comply with the request.

She expressed that she stood firm and earned the respect of the producers through her decision.

Reflecting on the ordeal, she remarked, “I refused to drop my dress and appear in my underwear.

If they wanted to see me in that state, they had better offer me the role.”

Pike elaborated on her preparation for the audition, mentioning that she opted to wear her grandmother’s elegant silk gown.

However, she was advised by the costume designer that it was not suitable for the Bond film’s aesthetic.

Instead, she was presented with skimpier options, indicating the stark contrast between her expectations and the industry’s standards.

Feeling out of place in this unfamiliar environment, Pike adjusted her outfit to meet the perceived requirements but stood her ground against the uncomfortable demand.

Despite the challenging circumstances, she expressed feeling at ease while working on the set alongside Pierce Brosnan in the MGM production.

This revelation by Pike emerges amidst the backdrop of the #MeToo movement, where numerous actresses have come forward with accounts of inappropriate behavior during auditions.

Stories like Mira Sorvino’s encounter with a propositioning director and allegations against casting personnel for misconduct shed light on the darker aspects of the entertainment industry.

The Hollywood Reporter has sought a response from MGM regarding Pike’s experience, highlighting the importance of addressing such incidents within the industry.

Pike’s unwavering stance serves as a testament to the resilience required to navigate the complexities of show business and stand up against unjust practices.
