The relationship between Prince Harry and the Royal Family has been a hot topic for quite some time, particularly after the revelations in his memoir, *Spare*, and various candid TV interviews.
While there seemed to be a glimmer of hope for mending fences—especially since Harry decided against adding more chapters to his autobiography—experts are signaling that things might not change anytime soon.
Jennie Bond, a former BBC royal correspondent, shared her thoughts with OK!, expressing skepticism about any meaningful reconciliation taking place.
“Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the New Year could bring some healing between Harry and his family?” she mused.
However, she quickly added that the prospects appear dim as long as Harry continues his legal battle over security with the Home Office.
This ongoing court case poses significant challenges for King Charles, as Jennie pointed out.
“The King finds himself in a precarious legal position,” she noted.
“He can’t engage in discussions with Harry regarding a dispute with his own government, making the idea of a meeting feel incredibly uncomfortable.”
Meanwhile, tensions seem to be rising in Harry’s relationship with his brother, Prince William.
According to Bond, William is focused on supporting his wife, who is recovering and preparing to accompany him on royal duties.
The prospect of rekindling brotherly bonds appears grim, at least for now.
Adding another layer to this complex situation, Harry and Meghan recently purchased a home in Portugal.
While some speculate this move is aimed at giving their children a taste of life closer to the UK, it also hints at the need for distance from the royal spotlight.
Jennie weighed in on this decision, suggesting that Harry desires his children to have a connection to their British heritage, yet acknowledges that significant hurdles remain before any hope of reconciliation between him and his family can materialize.
“It looks like a considerable amount of time needs to pass before the King and William can even consider patching things up with Harry,” she remarked.
During her appearance on Times Radio, Bond elaborated on how the dynamics of the rift have shifted.
Initially, Harry sought an apology for perceived slights against his wife, which made any dialogue impossible.
But now, it seems Harry is willing to forgive and express his love for his family.
Despite these gestures, it appears Charles and William are less inclined to move forward towards reconciliation.
“It feels like the roles have reversed,” Bond explained.
“Harry seems ready to mend fences, while Charles and William are holding back.”
As the holiday season approaches, the couple’s plans remain uncertain.
Yet, they will likely enjoy a cozy Christmas with their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, potentially outside the UK.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams opined that given the substantial divide between Harry, Meghan, and the royals, it’s improbable they will receive an invitation to celebrate Christmas with King Charles this year.
Recalling past festive gatherings, Richard noted that Harry and Meghan were included in the royal celebrations in 2017 and 2018 when they were engaged.
However, this year, due to the ongoing estrangement, it’s anticipated they will be absent from the family’s Christmas festivities.
“While there are fond memories from those holidays, they’re overshadowed by less pleasant experiences,” he said.
“With such a massive rift still in place, it makes perfect sense not to invite them, and that’s exactly what has happened this year.”
