Oprah Winfrey has been open about her experiences with s**ual abuse by family members throughout her career.
However, one aspect she had kept quiet about was the child she bore at just 14 years old and tragically lost shortly after.
During her visit to Melbourne, Australia for her solo performance, the renowned media personality finally shared with a crowd of 15,000 attendees the heart-wrenching story of losing her son at such a tender age, as reported by the New York Daily News.
In a candid moment on stage, Oprah disclosed, “I was s**ually assaulted at the age of nine by one of my cousins.
And then it happened again with another family member, and yet again with another.”
Winfrey bravely revealed that during her pregnancy, she was consumed by overwhelming feelings of “pain and shame.”
Consequently, when her son was born, she refrained from giving him a name, a decision that lingered for years.
In a poignant revelation, Oprah shared, “I had an interview with a journalist before my journey to Australia, and she suggested that I should give a name to the baby son I lost.
Hence, I have chosen a name for him now – Canaan.”
