Shia LaBeouf, the troubled Hollywood star, has opened up about the tumultuous clash with Alec Baldwin that nearly derailed his career, attributing it to his method acting that led him to a point of madness.
The 28-year-old actor was dismissed from the Broadway production of Orphans due to conflicts with Baldwin, the lead actor in the play.
LaBeouf now reflects that his intense preparation for the role of a street-smart kidnapper may have crossed boundaries.
In an interview with Interview magazine, LaBeouf revealed the intensity of his approach, stating, “Alec and I had intense confrontations.
I even resorted to sleeping in the park…
I was completely consumed by the character.
My sole purpose was to deeply affect Baldwin.
I wanted him to feel genuine fear, and I committed to that goal throughout three weeks of rehearsal.”
Baldwin, aged 56, alleged that LaBeouf verbally assaulted him for failing to memorize lines prior to rehearsals, adding fuel to their already strained dynamic.
Following the conflict, LaBeouf eventually settled matters with the play’s producers, following a formal complaint lodged with the Actors’ Equity union.
The play was meant to mark his debut on the New York stage.
During the European premiere of his movie Fury, which concluded the BFI London Film Festival, LaBeouf disclosed that he often pushes himself to extreme limits due to his lack of confidence in his acting abilities.
Expressing self-doubt, LaBeouf, accompanied by his partner Mia Goth in Leicester Square, admitted, “I struggle with believing in my own talents and capabilities.
I strive to avoid situations where I have to fabricate emotions or skills.”
