During the tragic passing of Marilyn Monroe in 1962 at the age of 36 due to a suspected overdose, a funeral director named Allan Abbott, who was involved in preparing her body for burial, has come forward with revelations about the icon’s final moments.
Abbott, who co-ran a renowned funeral service for celebrities in the 1960s alongside Ron Hast, has recently penned a revealing book detailing his experiences with stars like Monroe.
According to the Mirror, he expressed that Monroe appeared almost unrecognizable when he first laid eyes on her lifeless form shortly after her demise.
Upon unveiling Monroe’s body by removing the covering sheet, Abbott described the shock of seeing her in a state that bore little resemblance to her glamorous public image.
She appeared as an ordinary, aging woman who seemed to have neglected self-care.
The funeral director explained how the effects of gravity post-mortem led to the settling of blood in the lower parts of the body, a process known as lividity.
Typically, this discoloration is not visible in cases where individuals pass away lying on their backs; however, in Monroe’s case, her facedown position resulted in prominent purple patches on her face and severe swelling in her neck.
Further observations revealed that Monroe’s hair, which was naturally light brown rather than the iconic blonde, appeared unkempt and frizzy after being bathed at the coroner’s office.
