Kiefer Sutherland in Trouble Again: Arrested for Drunk Driving

In a surprising turn of events, Kiefer Sutherland, known for his role as a fearless secret agent on the popular TV series “24,” found himself in hot water once more when he was apprehended on suspicion of drunk driving just hours before a prestigious accolade was to be bestowed upon him by a Canadian actors’ union.

The 40-year-old Canadian actor, son of renowned actor Donald Sutherland, is currently under probation for a previous DUI offense, which had necessitated his participation in a mandated alcohol abuse rehabilitation program.

The incident unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday when Los Angeles law enforcement officers intercepted Sutherland’s vehicle at the border between Beverly Hills and West Hollywood following an observed illegal U-turn maneuver.

Subsequent breathalyzer tests revealed that his blood-alcohol level exceeded the legal limit, leading to his detainment on grounds of driving under the influence, as confirmed by a police spokesperson.

Sutherland was subsequently transported to the Hollywood police station, where he posted bail amounting to $25,000 and was subsequently released pending a court appearance scheduled for October 16.

Although specifics surrounding the arrest remain scant, an undisclosed police insider cited by TMZ.com characterized Sutherland as being cooperative and composed throughout his detention.

The timing of the arrest was particularly unfortunate as it coincided with an impending recognition ceremony organized by the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) set to take place at the official residence of Canada’s Consul General in Los Angeles.

Despite the setback, the awards event proceeded as planned, albeit shielded from media coverage, with a representative of ACTRA confirming Sutherland’s anticipated attendance while refraining from further elaboration.

Sutherland’s prior entanglement with the law dates back to 2004 when he received a five-year probation sentence, a $500 fine, and mandatory enrollment in an alcohol rehabilitation initiative subsequent to entering a no contest plea, akin to a guilty plea in California, for his earlier DUI transgression, according to a city attorney’s spokesperson.

Should formal charges ensue from the recent arrest, the decision on potential probation violation would rest with the judge overseeing Sutherland’s previous legal ordeal.

Notably, the same judicial figure, Judge Michael Sauer, famously imposed a 45-day jail term on socialite Paris Hilton for breaching her probation in a similar DUI case.

Despite these personal challenges, Sutherland’s professional achievements have not gone unnoticed, as exemplified by his Emmy Award win in the past year for his portrayal of the intrepid counterterrorism agent Jack Bauer on “24,” a flagship series of the Fox network renowned for its high viewership ratings.

With the show gearing up for its seventh season premiere in January after captivating an average audience of 13.5 million viewers earlier this year, sources close to the production assured that Sutherland’s legal predicament is unlikely to disrupt the
