Is it the fiery ink or Jennifer Lopez’s scathing remarks that leave a more lasting mark?
Recently, fans have unearthed a 2016 interview where J.Lo didn’t hold back on her thoughts about Ben Affleck’s iconic back tattoo featuring a phoenix emerging from flames.
Describing it as “awful,” Lopez candidly expressed her disapproval of her former flame’s colorful design during an episode of “Watch What Happens Live.”
“I would tell him that,” she remarked.
“What are you doing?
It has too many colors!
His tattoos always have too many colors.
They shouldn’t be so colorful, you know what I mean?
They should be, like, cooler.”
Affleck initially revealed the much-debated tattoo in 2015 amidst his divorce from Jennifer Garner.
Despite initially claiming it was temporary, he later defended its significance in a 2019 appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
Stating that the tattoo held personal meaning for him, Affleck emphasized his satisfaction with the ink despite the mixed public reception it received.
Now, with Lopez, 52, and Affleck, 48, reigniting their romance and making it Instagram official, speculations arise about whether Affleck might follow others like Pete Davidson in opting for tattoo removal services.
Social media buzzed with comments anticipating JLo’s possible influence on Affleck’s tattoo choices, with one user tweeting, “JLo is going to get Ben Affleck to remove that back tattoo of his.
I’m happy for him.”
Another user humorously speculated, “I bet JLo makes Ben keep his shirt on at all times, she does not have the patience for that trash tattoo.”
Despite the scrutiny over his ink, Affleck seemed unfazed as he enjoyed a vacation with Lopez where he even playfully recreated a scene from her “Jenny From the Block” music video.
Acknowledging Lopez’s acceptance, Affleck’s display of affection included wearing a necklace bearing the name “Ben” as a tribute during their time in Monaco.
While Lopez appears to overlook the tattoo, she may find solidarity in her critique from other celebrities, notably Garner, who openly disapproved of the tattoo in 2016, humorously suggesting it represented a rebirth from her perspective.
Even Affleck’s close friend Matt Damon, though supportive of Bennifer’s reunion, couldn’t resist poking fun at the tattoo, jokingly remarking on the limits of advising another on their body art choices.
