Jason Segel underwent a significant weight loss transformation for his role in the recent movie, “The Five-Year Engagement.”
Starring alongside Emily Blunt, the actor revealed that he was pressured by the film’s executives to drop a whopping 35 pounds to maintain authenticity on screen.
During an appearance on the David Letterman show, Segel disclosed, “I was compelled to lose weight for this film.
It was at the insistence of the studio president!
They wanted it to be believable that Emily Blunt’s character would choose me as her husband, so I had to shed a considerable 35 pounds.”
To achieve this physical makeover, Segel shared that a personal trainer was assigned to him on set, pushing him to engage in rigorous workouts twice a day while monitoring his dietary intake closely.
Despite the strict regimen imposed upon him, the actor confessed to not fully adhering to the guidelines and instead attempted to consume as much food as possible.
His ingenious strategy involved leveraging his role as a chef in the movie to orchestrate scenes where he could indulge in eating.
Segel humorously remarked, “They didn’t foresee my cleverness.
Since I play a chef in the film, there were numerous scenes requiring me to eat.
So, I resorted to bribing my co-stars to flub their lines during these sequences, allowing me to continue feasting!”
In “The Five-Year Engagement,” a romantic comedy, Segel showcases his acting prowess alongside co-star Emily Blunt.
The film explores the intricacies of a five-year engagement period, promising audiences a delightful blend of romance and humor.
