In a twist of fate, Henry Winkler played a pivotal role in steering his daughter Zoe away from the glitzy world of reality television.
During a recent episode of her podcast, “What In The Winkler?!
“, 44-year-old Zoe opened up about her near-simultaneous venture into the realm of reality stardom, only to have her father intervene.
“Remember when I was a contender for The Bachelorette?”
Zoe asked her father, who humorously responded, “Oh, my goodness.
We put a stop to that, and it was all for your protection.”
His light-hearted demeanor masked a fatherly concern that ultimately shaped Zoe’s career path.
Zoe recounted moments from her past when she, alongside Kim Kardashian and Sarah Howard, was approached for a show titled “Quarter Life Crisis.”
Just like with The Bachelorette, Henry swiftly turned down this opportunity on her behalf.
“I’ll never forget Matt Hanna, the executive producer,” Zoe reminisced.
“He flew out to LA to shoot a sizzle reel for us.
At the time, I was living at home right after college, and he came by the house to meet you.”
Henry interjected with a chuckle, recalling how he greeted the producer: “It’s wonderful that you’re here!
I can recommend some great dining spots, but my daughter won’t be partaking in your show.”
While Zoe’s dreams of reality fame evaporated and Kim skyrocketed to global stardom, she now views her father’s decision as a protective measure that allowed her to fulfill her true passion—teaching.
“I became a teacher, which is truly what I’ve always wanted,” Zoe shared, prompting Henry to affirm, “I always knew you were born to teach.” He praised her teaching methods, stating that if he were a young parent, he’d adopt her techniques for his own children.
After earning her degree from Loyola Marymount University, Zoe began her journey as a nursery school teacher.
However, her career took another turn when she co-founded the nonprofit organization, This is About Humanity, in 2018.
This initiative focuses on assisting families and children affected by the separation at the United States-Mexico border, shedding light on their plight and providing vital resources.
Zoe explained her motivation behind starting the organization in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
The haunting images of migrant children in holding facilities compelled her to act.
“I couldn’t shake off the thought of those children,” she said.
“As a mother of three young kids, the idea of them being separated from me is unfathomable.
It’s a traumatic experience, especially in today’s world, and I never envisioned myself as an activist, but I felt driven to take action.”
