Geena Davis recently unveiled her latest memoir, “Dying of Politeness: A Memoir,” bringing to light some intriguing anecdotes from her extensive career in Hollywood spanning over four decades.
Amidst the myriad of captivating and amusing tales involving fellow actors, one particular incident stood out – a steamy s** scene with none other than Brad Pitt in the renowned 1991 film, Thelma & Louise.
Portraying the character of Thelma in this iconic movie directed by Ridley Scott, Davis found herself entangled in a passionate affair with Brad Pitt’s character, JD, a mysterious drifter harboring sinister intentions towards her.
However, when the moment arrived to film the intimate sequence where the two characters bared it all in a whirlwind of emotions, Pitt apparently grappled with a bout of self-consciousness about a minor imperfection on his backside.
Davis humorously recounted in her memoir, “Brad seemed unfazed by the attention surrounding his appearance, but he did feel a tad embarrassed about a tiny blemish on his behind.”
At that time, the now-renowned Hollywood star was merely 28 years old and had yet to achieve the megastar status he enjoys today, with his breakout role in the critically acclaimed film, Seven, still a few years away.
In a candid revelation, Geena Davis opened up about the challenges she faced while gearing up for the daring scene with Brad Pitt.
At 35 years old back then, with only a handful of movies under her belt, most of which did not require her to expose much skin, Davis admitted feeling apprehensive about the extent of n^dty demanded for the scene.
“I was uneasy about the amount of skin I had to reveal,” she confessed in her memoir.
“Ridley Scott had to scout through several body doubles accustomed to showcasing their physique more freely than I was.”
The actress disclosed that Scott even conducted auditions for potential body doubles to stand in for her.
Eventually, after grappling with the decision, Davis decided to take matters into her own hands, recalling her background as a former model and stepping up to the challenge.
“I had previous experience as a model, so I informed Ridley that I could handle it… and I had nothing to worry about,” she reminisced.
More than a decade later, Brad Pitt underwent a change of heart regarding on-screen nudity.
Even after tying the knot with Angelina Jolie and expanding his family with a brood of adopted children, he resolved to eliminate clauses barring him from filming n^de scenes from his contracts in 2007.
Pitt candidly expressed his rationale, stating, “I want to steer clear of any embarrassment when my kids grow older and watch my films.
I no longer see a reason for shying away from n^de scenes.”
The nostalgic reminiscences of Geena Davis and Brad Pitt’s shared on-screen escapades continue to captivate audiences, shedding light on the intricate dynamics and personal challenges encountered during the filming of Thelma & Louise.
