Director Thomas Bidegain has revealed that the production of an indie film involving Jake Gyllenhaal was disrupted due to the actor’s purported erratic conduct during filming.
The movie, titled Soudain Seuls, was initially intended to be an English-language project starring Gyllenhaal and Vanessa Kirby.
In a recent interview with Technikart, Bidegain disclosed various accusations against Gyllenhaal and Kirby, which both actors have refuted.
Among these claims was an incident where Gyllenhaal and Kirby allegedly mocked the director by reading the script in a “Pepe Le Pew” accent.
Despite ten months of collaborative script development with the two leads, filming only lasted four days before Bidegain made the decision to halt production entirely.
The rift between Gyllenhaal and the director reportedly stemmed from differing interpretations of the movie’s core message.
While Bidegain envisioned the film as a story about love’s ability to save the world in times of crisis, Gyllenhaal saw it through a different lens, associating it with a profound reverence for nature.
Further allegations against Gyllenhaal included his insistence on having a specific color car, his refusal to fly due to pandemic concerns, and a peculiar incident where he stripped down to his underwear and plunged into the frigid ocean at filming locations.
Vanessa Kirby, who was set to co-star alongside Gyllenhaal, was also affected by the film’s cancellation.
The situation culminated when Bidegain had to deliver the disheartening news to producer Alain Attal, expressing that their creative visions were irreconcilable, resulting in the project’s termination and the loss of a substantial financial investment.
Despite attempts by Gyllenhaal’s and StudioCanal’s representatives to clarify the circumstances surrounding the film’s demise, asserting that the English version never received the green light and the Iceland shoot was part of the developmental process, unresolved issues persisted between the parties involved, leading to the project’s ultimate downfall.
