With a total of 11 living children, Elon Musk certainly stands out as one of the most prolific fathers in the world.
Yet, it seems he’s not ready to hit the brakes on his ambitious family-planning endeavors anytime soon.
The billionaire entrepreneur, known for his role as the head of Tesla and SpaceX, has made headlines for his controversial views on population growth.
Musk has openly voiced concerns about a potential decline in global birth rates, which he believes poses a significant threat to humanity’s future.
In an effort to combat this issue, reports suggest that Musk has taken some rather eyebrow-raising steps, including allegedly offering his sperm to friends and acquaintances.
In a recent twist, Musk’s push for higher birth rates aligns with his newfound political clout, following his appointment in President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet.
He’s been vocal about his belief that a shrinking population could lead to dire consequences.
As he tweeted last year, “Population collapse due to low birthrates is a much bigger risk to civilization than global warming.”
Musk has been relentless in his promotion of parenthood, urging others to embrace larger families.
Earlier this year, he emphasized his argument with a rather striking statement: “The population collapse in most countries is a tragedy.
Sales of adult diapers should never exceed sales of baby diapers!” It’s clear he’s passionate about the issue, but the lengths he’s willing to go are raising eyebrows.
According to an article by The New York Times, Musk reportedly extended a rather peculiar offer to Nicole Shanahan, who is running alongside Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for office.
However, Shanahan declined his unconventional proposal, leading to an awkward moment that many would find uncomfortable.
At a dinner event hosted by a notable Silicon Valley executive, Musk is said to have boasted about fathering numerous children while casually offering his sperm to a couple he had met just a few times.
This couple had shared their struggles with conception during the meal, prompting Musk’s unusual suggestion to help them out.
Talk about an unexpected dinner conversation!
Despite Musk’s pro-natalist stance, some of his comments haven’t received a warm reception.
His alignment with right-wing ideologies and the so-called ‘MAGA’ movement has positioned him as a controversial figure in the ongoing societal discourse about family and reproduction.
Pop culture also intersected with Musk’s opinions when Taylor Swift jokingly referred to herself as a “childless cat lady” while endorsing Kamala Harris.
This was a response to claims by JD Vance, who characterized childless Democrats in a less-than-flattering light.
Musk couldn’t resist chiming in, saying he would be happy to provide her with a child and protect her cats.
Many on social media found his comment to be off-putting, labeling it as “creepy” and “weird.”
Interestingly, despite Musk’s worries about population decline, experts suggest that such fears may be exaggerated.
Reports indicate that the global population is expected to reach its peak in the latter half of the 21st century before stabilizing or gradually decreasing.
Patrick Gerland, a leader in the UN’s Population Estimates and Projections Section, noted that viewing these trends as a collapse might be an overstatement.
Currently, global population estimates hover around 8.2 billion, with projections suggesting it will rise to approximately 10.3 billion in the coming decades before tapering off slightly.
So, while Musk’s intentions to encourage more births are commendable, the reality might not be as dire as he perceives.
Musk’s own journey into fatherhood began with his first wife, Canadian author Justine Wilson.
Together, they welcomed six children, although their family faced the heartbreaking loss of their firstborn son, Nevada, to SIDS.
Justine has spoken about how she coped with that tragedy, turning to IVF almost immediately after.
Through IVF, Musk and Justine brought twins Vivian and Griffin into the world in 2004, followed by triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian in 2006.
After their divorce, Musk continued to grow his family with musician Grimes, welcoming two more children with uniquely creative names: X Æ A-Xii and Exa Dark Sideræl, the latter born via surrogate in December 2021.
Musk’s most recent additions to his family include twins with Shivon Zilis, a Neuralink executive, born in 2021.
They recently welcomed another child together, keeping the details under wraps.
With all these developments, it’s clear that Musk is determined to leave a lasting legacy, one child at a time.
