Burt Reynolds Regrets His Notorious n^de Cosmopolitan Shoot

In 1972, the late Burt Reynolds, who passed away at 82, made a decision that would transform him into a major s** symbol.

He agreed to pose n^de for Cosmopolitan magazine under Helen Gurley Brown’s direction.

Despite the uproar it caused, Reynolds initially downplayed the significance of the shoot in an interview with Steve Harvey in March 2018.

He mentioned that he didn’t anticipate the controversy surrounding it and shared that he agreed to do it with the condition of covering certain parts with his hands.

Reynolds, known for his humor, even joked about the size of his hands in relation to the shoot, making light-hearted comments about the situation.

In another instance, during an interview with Conan O’Brien, he confessed to being heavily intoxicated during the photo session.

Reynolds admitted to starting drinking early in the day and being so drunk that he initially refused to strip as planned.

Eventually, after some negotiation, he proceeded with the shoot while inebriated.

Reflecting on the past, Reynolds expressed deep regret and embarrassment when looking back at the controversial shoot in 2017 during an interview with Katie Couric.

He criticized himself for his actions, referring to himself as an egomaniac for agreeing to such a daring move.

Reynolds admitted that the attention and buzz generated by the shoot were not worth the discomfort and unease he felt afterwards.

In his autobiography “My Life,” published in 1994, Reynolds recounted the unexpected reactions he received from women following the publication of the centerfold.

What started as admiration and standing ovations quickly turned into objectification and lewd remarks about his physical appearance.

He highlighted how the focus shifted from his talent to superficial aspects, which left him feeling disillusioned and disheartened by the public’s response.

The aftermath of the n^de shoot had a lasting impact on Reynolds, shaping his views on fame and public perception.

Despite gaining immense popularity and becoming a s** symbol, he grappled with the consequences of his decision to pose nude.

The experience served as a cautionary tale for Reynolds and a reminder of the complexities of celebrity status.

It underscored the importance of staying true to oneself and not succumbing to external pressures or expectations, a lesson that Reynolds carried with him throughout his life and career.
