Actress Alyssa Milano recently stood by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, opening up about a distressing experience from her own past.
In a heartfelt Twitter video on Wednesday, Milano recounted her own story of s**ual assault, surrounded by a supportive group of women echoing her sentiments.
The 45-year-old actress and the women assembled at Senator Susan Collins’ office, hoping to speak with her.
When they were unable to find the senator, they banded together to amplify Milano’s message.
Sharing her ordeal through a ‘human microphone,’ Milano tweeted, “I told one of my #MeToo stories in @SenatorCollins office.
I was with her constituent.
We asked to speak with Senator Collins.
She hid.
Here’s my story through a ‘human microphone.’ I’ll never know if she heard me.”
Caution: The video contains sensitive content that may be disturbing to some viewers.
Beginning her narrative, Milano introduced herself and recounted an incident from when she was 19 years old at a concert where chaos ensued after a pop star urged the crowd to move closer.
She described being caught in a stampede that left her struggling to breathe and fearing for her life, as individuals were crushed against each other.
Milano then bravely disclosed the s**ual assault she endured during the concert, recalling how she felt a hand groping her from behind and sustaining repeated blows in her private area.
Despite seeking help from security guards, she received no assistance.
Unable to identify her attacker in the chaotic crowd, Milano managed to free herself, climb onto the stage to escape, but could not pinpoint the perpetrator among the masses.
Expressing solidarity with Ford, who recently testified about her alleged assault by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Milano revealed the difficulty she faced in reporting the incident due to uncertainty about the assailant’s identity.
She tearfully explained that like Ford, she kept the assault a secret for years, unable to disclose it to anyone without knowing who was responsible.
Kavanaugh has denied the accusations of s**ual assault made against him.
Milano’s powerful video confession emerged following her presence at the Senate hearing supporting Ford and expressing solidarity with her on September 27.
During the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Milano sat alongside New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, affirming her belief in Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.
Reflecting on the day, Milano evoked memories of Anita Hill’s testimony in 1991 during Clarence Thomas’ confirmation hearings, noting a shift in unity among women standing together in support.
Prior to the Kavanaugh hearing, Milano added her voice to the #WhyIDidntReport movement, disclosing her own history of s**ual assault in a tweet directed at President Donald Trump.
Encouraging other survivors to share their stories, Milano emphasized the importance of speaking out and supporting one another in the face of s**ual violence.
As a prominent advocate for the #MeToo movement and a survivor of s**ual assault herself, Milano continues to raise awareness and offer support to those impacted by s**ual violence.
