Eva Amurri is giving us a glimpse into her childhood, revealing how her mother, the iconic actress Susan Sarandon, shaped her views on parenting and diet.
In a recent chat with SheKnows for their 2024 Holiday digital issue, Amurri reflected on the differences in her own parenting style compared to that of her famous mom.
At 39 years old, Amurri is now a mother herself, raising three children—Marlowe Mae, 9, Major James, and Mateo Antoni, 4—with her ex-husband Kyle Martino.
When it comes to parenting, she emphasizes that dietary choices are where she diverges most from Sarandon’s approach.
Amurri describes her mom as a quintessential “almond mom,” a term that implies a strong focus on health and nutrition.
“My mom would trek down to the only organic grocery store in New York City during the early ’80s to stock up on the healthiest items,” she recalls fondly.
She humorously adds, “She genuinely considered Cheerios to be junk food—that’s just how committed she was to healthy eating.” It’s a striking contrast to her own relaxed attitude towards food, especially when it comes to her youngest child.
“My 4-year-old will eat half an ice cream cone and say, ‘I think I’m done,’” Amurri laughs.
“He knows when to stop, probably because I’m pretty laid-back about it.”
This past summer marked a significant moment in Amurri’s life, as she married chef Ian Hock at Windrift Hall in New York’s picturesque Hudson Valley.
Sharing her wedding vision with PEOPLE, she revealed her desire to prioritize her children’s presence during the celebration.
“We wanted to make our little family the centerpiece of the event, ensuring it was as much about them as it was about us,” Amurri explained.
The couple collaborated closely with their officiant to create a ceremony that felt personal and intimate, balancing their love story with their passion for good food.
Amurri also highlighted her children’s special roles in the ceremony, noting that they were essentially the bridal party.
“We decided to write our own love letters to each other as vows, which was incredibly meaningful,” she shared, emphasizing the uniqueness of their celebration.
