Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has found herself in the crosshairs of criticism from a former friend over her approach to charity work.
Lizzie Cundy, a TV presenter who once shared a bond with Meghan, has expressed her dismay at how the couple seems to spotlight their philanthropic efforts rather than keeping them private, as they have often claimed to desire.
Cundy, who first connected with Meghan back in 2013, didn’t hold back when discussing the couple’s penchant for documenting their charitable actions.
Speaking to the Daily Star, she remarked that it is unfortunate for Meghan and Harry to feel the need to have cameras rolling during their good deeds.
“Let’s be honest, I knew Meghan before she was with Harry,” she stated, sharing her perspective on their public persona.
While acknowledging the importance of charity work, Cundy suggested that the couple might benefit from stepping back from the spotlight.
She pointed out that it feels somewhat disingenuous to carry out charitable acts while ensuring a camera crew is in tow.
The TV presenter described their six-part Netflix series as more of a “publicity stunt” rather than a genuine exploration of their charitable endeavors.
“Why do they feel the need to document everything?” Cundy questioned, urging Meghan and Harry to engage in charitable acts without seeking validation from the public eye.
It raises an interesting point—can one truly give back if the act itself is drenched in self-promotion?
Cundy also reflected on how long it has been since the couple has been seen together in public.
This lack of visibility only adds to her belief that their recent activities may just be another form of publicity.
“Shall I say, it’s possibly a publicity stunt?” she mused, hinting at the couple’s strategic choices regarding their public image.
The former friendship between Cundy and Meghan eventually faded away, but she did share some wisdom she learned from music mogul Simon Cowell.
“People can see through the facade,” she quoted Cowell, emphasizing the importance of authenticity in the eyes of the public.
“Now, I think people have really seen through Meghan,” she added, suggesting that the audience is becoming increasingly discerning.
Cundy’s insights come shortly after another significant development in Harry’s royal status.
Just this week, he was quietly stripped of the title “His Royal Highness” from his official profile
